Madinah, October 10, 2024 – The Prophet's Mosque in Madinah welcomed an astounding 5,278,896 worshippers and visitors over the past week, as the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque provided comprehensive services to ensure their comfort and spiritual experience. The recent report from the authority outlined the extensive efforts made to accommodate the large influx of visitors and worshippers, reflecting the meticulous planning and coordination involved in managing the sacred site.
Among the visitors, 516,026 individuals took the opportunity to greet the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his two companions, a deeply spiritual act that is central to many pilgrims' journey to Madinah. In addition, 243,800 visitors performed prayers at the Al-Rawdah Al-Sharifa, a revered space within the Prophet’s Mosque, known for its spiritual significance. Access to this holy area was managed through organized crowd control procedures and strict visiting hours, ensuring the safety and convenience of the worshippers.
The authority’s report also highlighted the broad range of services provided to accommodate the diverse needs of the visitors. Of special note, 75,898 individuals from various nationalities benefited from the translation services, ensuring that language barriers did not hinder their ability to fully engage in their religious practices. These translation services underscore the mosque’s role as a global religious destination, catering to people from all walks of life.
In terms of hygiene and sanitation, the authority undertook significant efforts to maintain the cleanliness and safety of the mosque. Over 24,247 liters of disinfectants were used in sterilization activities, reflecting the high standards of cleanliness maintained throughout the mosque. This emphasis on hygiene is especially important, given the large number of visitors passing through the site daily.
Another key aspect of the services provided was the distribution of Zamzam water, a holy water that holds deep spiritual importance for Muslims. In total, 1,570 tons of Zamzam water were provided to visitors throughout the week. In addition, the authority conducted tests and analyses on 180 Zamzam water samples to ensure its purity and safety.
The report also highlighted the provision of Iftar meals for those breaking their fast at the mosque. A total of 121,560 Iftar meals were distributed in designated areas, offering nourishment to the fasting worshippers in a well-organized and respectful manner. This initiative reflects the spirit of generosity and care that is central to the experience of visiting the Prophet’s Mosque, particularly during times of worship and reflection.
