LONDON March 29, 2025: Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola admitted that neither he nor his players deserve a bonus, even if they win the Club World Cup, given their disappointing season.

City currently sit fifth in the Premier League and have been eliminated from both the Champions League and League Cup.

Having won the English title in the past four seasons, Guardiola’s team faces the prospect of ending the campaign without a major trophy for the first time since his debut season in 2016/17.

Their remaining domestic silverware hopes rest on the FA Cup, with a quarter-final clash against Bournemouth set for Sunday.

Even if City secure the FA Cup or triumph in the Club World Cup in June and July, Guardiola insists they have underperformed too much to warrant a share of the substantial prize money from the post-season tournament in the United States.

FIFA recently announced that the Club World Cup winners could earn up to $125 million, with a total prize pool of $1 billion spread across the 32 participating teams.

“We don’t deserve it this season. We don’t deserve a bonus this season. If we win, I don’t know how much, but it is for the club,” Guardiola told reporters on Friday.

“The manager, the players, the backroom staff, we don’t deserve it. Not even a watch.”
