Qatari camel "Bahar" wins "Lqaya" category with best time

Riyadh, February 10, 2024, On the third day of the "Bahar" festival, a camel named "Bahar," owned by Qatari Jaber Salem Al-Jarboi, secured the top spot in the "Lqaya" category, completing the race in an impressive time of 7:27.011 minutes.

Organized under the auspices of the Saudi Camel Federation, the inaugural edition of the festival kicked off last Thursday at the Al-Janadriyah arena in Riyadh and is slated to continue until February 18th.

The races in the "Lqaya" category are set to wrap up on February 10th, comprising a total of 28 races divided between morning and evening sessions, with the latter featuring four major prize events. On the opening day of "Lqaya" competitions, a substantial turnout of 968 camels participated, with 566 competing in the morning races and 402 in the evening sessions.

The Kingdom's camel sector enjoys strong support from Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and HRH Crown Prince, who are dedicated to advancing this time-honored sport. The aim is to preserve its cultural and athletic significance for future generations, positioning camel racing as a national sport with aspirations for global recognition.
