Qiddiya plans cutting-edge racetrack to boost motorsport in Saudi

Riyadh, March 05, 2024, The Qiddiya Investment Company (QIC) Board of Directors has revealed plans for a cutting-edge racetrack at Qiddiya City aimed at propelling Saudi Arabia to the forefront of motorsport as one of the world’s premier racing destinations. The Speed Park Track, situated at the heart of Qiddiya City, is set to revolutionize the motorsport experience by seamlessly combining functionality, state-of-the-art technology, and exceptional customer engagement. In a statement released by the company, the Speed Park Track is poised to attract a prestigious array of global racing events and will feature iconic track elements synonymous with the world of motorsport. A standout feature will be the innovative "Blade" at turn one – a striking elevated segment of the circuit that soars over 20 stories high. Managing Director of Qiddiya Investment Company, Abdullah Aldawood, expressed excitement for the track's launch, emphasizing its embodiment of Qiddiya’s ethos of entertainment. Aldawood envisioned the Speed Park Track as not only a hub for Saudi motorsport but also a standout global motorsport venue. Collaboratively designed by former Formula One driver Alex Wurz from Austria and renowned circuit designer Hermann Tilke from Germany, the dynamic layout of the track, with 21 corners and an exhilarating 108m elevation gain per lap, promises an adrenaline-fueled experience for both drivers and spectators. The track offers diverse configurations, including a street circuit section and a high-speed open track section, integrated with Qiddiya's complementary attractions. Spectators will enjoy immersive viewing experiences from various vantage points, complemented by entertainment offerings that reflect Qiddiya's holistic approach to leisure. The Speed Park Track is strategically linked to surrounding attractions, such as a music venue beneath the “Blade” turn and the world's tallest rollercoaster, Falcon's Flight, at the neighboring Six Flags Qiddiya City. Additionally, it will run alongside a water theme park within the city, creating a dynamic environment that captures the thrill of motorsports alongside cultural and entertainment elements. Aligned with Qiddiya's philosophy of play, which underscores the importance of recreational activities in enhancing cognitive, emotional, and social well-being, the unveiling of the track builds on the previously announced Qiddiya Gaming & esports District and the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium developments. Further announcements are anticipated shortly, promising an exciting array of offerings within the evolving Qiddiya ecosystem.
