Riyadh, November 29, 2024 – The launch of Diriyah Art Futures (DAF), the first New Media Arts hub in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, marked a significant milestone in the world of digital and multimedia art. The inaugural event was a breathtaking audiovisual performance titled "Transient: Impermanent Paintings" by renowned multimedia artist Quayola, which captivated audiences with its innovative approach to blending human creativity with cutting-edge technology.
Transient: Impermanent Paintings, originally created in 2020, served as the centerpiece of the opening night, offering an immersive concert that pushed the boundaries of traditional art forms. The performance featured two motorized pianos that played in sync with mesmerizing video projections, which evoked the delicate brushstrokes of impressionist painting. These elements combined in real-time, allowing the audience to experience the synergy between artistic expression and generative algorithms. This dynamic interaction reflected Quayola’s signature ability to blur the lines between natural and artificial worlds.
The artist collaborated with Seta, a musician and technologist, to craft this unique performance. Through complex algorithms and improvisational musical compositions, Transient redefined the concert experience, with the integration of dynamic generative visuals enhancing the musical elements. The result was a performance that not only explored the intersection of art and technology but also demonstrated the evolving possibilities within the realm of new media art.
Diriyah Art Futures aims to establish itself as a pioneering global center for New Media Art, and the debut of Transient sets the tone for future groundbreaking exhibitions. The inaugural exhibition, titled "Art Must Be Artificial: Perspectives of AI in the Visual Arts", is running until February 15, 2025, and will feature a series of workshops, performances, and discussions that delve into the role of artificial intelligence in the visual arts.
To further support the growth of digital and multimedia art, DAF will host two exclusive masterclasses this weekend, from November 29–30, led by prominent exhibition artists. These sessions aim to engage and inspire a new generation of creators, fostering deeper exploration of the intersection between technology, art, and creativity.
As Diriyah Art Futures continues to evolve, it remains committed to showcasing the transformative power of New Media and Digital Art, offering a platform where innovation, culture, and creativity converge.
