Rally Jameel, the exhilarating navigational rally catering to women across the region, has successfully wrapped up its second stage against the picturesque backdrop of Umluj.
This rally, organized by Jameel Motorsport with support from FIA Women in Motorsport and the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation (SAMF), commenced in Ha'il on Tuesday before progressing to AlUla.
In an electrifying second stage, Catherine Munnings and co-driver Catalina Floberg of the Altawkilat team secured the top position, with Suvi Jyrkiäinen and co-driver Suvi Nisula from the Fast Finns team maintaining their strong performance in second place. Ewelina Chlebowska and co-driver Hanna Riehle of the Sandstorm Express team claimed the third spot.
During the opening stage of the rally, Saudi driver Dania Akeel and co-driver Syndiely Wade clinched the top position. Ewelina Chlebowska and co-driver Hanna Riehle closely followed in second place, with Maha Al Hamali and co-driver Eleanor Coker of the Obiyya team securing the third spot, concluding an intense and competitive stage.
Under the theme "She Shifts the World," Rally Jameel 2024 reaffirms its commitment to empowering women in motorsports and aligns with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 to promote adventure tourism. This year's edition has seen record global participation, with 110 drivers and co-drivers representing 36 countries.
Set against the breathtaking coastal scenery of Umluj, characterized by turquoise waters, golden sandy beaches, and diverse natural wonders, competitors engaged in spirited contests along challenging routes. The rally showcases the growing prowess of women in motorsports, highlighting their talents on an international platform.
Highly decorated Saudi driver Dania Akeel expressed her excitement, stating, “Every moment behind the wheel has been exhilarating and engaging. With Syndiely Wade as my co-driver, we have tackled each challenging stage with determination and a commitment to excellence. Despite the competition, there's a strong sense of camaraderie among us drivers, pushing each other to greater heights. We eagerly anticipate the upcoming stages of the rally.”
Annie Seel, winner of the inaugural Rally Jameel and currently co-driving in the Kurdistan team, shared her sentiments, “Every twist and turn of the desert terrain presents a new test of skill. Racing amidst such breathtaking landscapes is an unparalleled experience, fueling my drive to continually push boundaries and pursue success in the motorsport realm. I'm delighted to join the rally again and partner with Iraqi driver Saz Gullani.”
