Rally Saudi Arabia Revives Motorsport Legacy
On May 2, 2025, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia officially launched Rally Saudi Arabia in the Jeddah Region, marking the thrilling return of the FIA Middle East Rally Championship (MERC) to the country after 15 years. Supervised by the Ministry of Sport and organized by the Saudi Motorsport Company (SMC) and the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation (SAMF), this motorsport revival is more than a race—it’s a Vision 2030 milestone.
The opening ceremony was graced by Prince Khalid bin Sultan bin Abdullah bin Faisal, Chairman of both SMC and SAMF. In his remarks, Prince Khalid praised the unwavering support of Saudi leadership, crediting the Kingdom’s bold vision for turning motorsport into a national strength.
He announced that Rally Saudi Arabia’s return to the MERC calendar is a strategic step toward hosting the World Rally Championship (WRC) in November, underlining Saudi Arabia’s ambitions to lead in international motorsports.
Prince Khalid emphasized that SAMF is committed to developing motorsport infrastructure, nurturing local talent, and expanding the sport’s community. These efforts aim to position Saudi Arabia as a premier global motorsport destination, attract tourism, and cultivate youth engagement in high-performance sports.
Saudi Arabia’s reintegration into MERC and its WRC ambitions reflect Vision 2030’s focus on sports development, infrastructure expansion, and global reputation building.
