Ranger Raptor features active valve twin exhaust, four drive modes, and quiet mode

The 3.0L twin-turbo V6 model's new active valve twin exhaust system and four drive modes, including Quiet mode for early morning starts, help the next-generation Ranger Raptor maintain peace in the city as well as rule the deserts and master the mountains.

The device is intended to manage the noise produced by the potent 292 kW 3.0L twin-turbo V6 in the next-generation Ranger Raptor with an active exhaust system that opens valves, much like a saxophone or a huge pipe organ, to alter the sound of the car according to the driver's mood.

"For the upcoming Ranger Raptor, we wanted to truly bring out the character of the car, emphasize its strength, and define its presence without overworking it. According to Justin Capicchiano, manager of Ford Performance and special vehicle engineering, "We spent hundreds of hours fine-tuning and developing the sound of the vehicle and really think we have something that sounds right for the truck."

The system can be managed by the driver via the "Exhaust Mode" button to suit their preferences, or it can operate automatically according to the drive mode they've chosen: Quiet, Normal, Sport, or Baja I.

Keep it quite

Customers particularly enjoy the strong exhaust tone of performance vehicles like the next-generation Ranger Raptor. And while that thrilling sound is suitable on the freeway or in far-off places, it's not so appropriate in your neighborhood, especially early in the morning or late at night.

Owners can minimize exhaust noise by switching to quiet mode. Even better, the next-generation Ranger Raptor enables the scheduling of "quiet start," enabling owners to set the vehicle to always start in silent mode or to set a quiet period (with start and finish times) to assist them in maintaining good relations with their neighbors.

Manual control

Simply push the button on the steering wheel that resembles an exhaust pipe to modify the exhaust sound. Pressing the button a second time allows you to switch the selected exhaust mode, while the first hit shows a pop-up notice on the digital instrument cluster indicating the selected mode. The quietest setting for all driving circumstances is quiet. Normal: The default setting offers the right amount of comfort and feedback. For Normal, Slippery, Mud/Ruts, and Rock Crawl drive modes by default. Sport: A little bit louder than usual for enthusiastic driving. Bajai: Off-road use only; loudest setting maximum exhaust loudness when driving in all circumstances.

We wanted Raptor to sound the same way it looks and drives, which involves a lot of sound science. The team had to take everything into account and model everything, from the turbocharger whistle to filtering out lengthy tones while traveling at a fixed pace, according to Capicchiano.

"From computer modeling to real prototypes, the goal was to create an instantly recognizable and emotionally stirring engine note that will make people's hair stand on end. Before you see it, we want you to know it's a Ranger Raptor traveling down the road.
