Riyadh, October 24, 2023, The seventh Future Investment Initiative (FII7) forum, themed "The New Compass," commenced in Riyadh. The three-day event convenes over 6,000 participants from 90 countries, featuring 500 speakers from diverse sectors. In his opening address, FII Institute CEO Richard Attias emphasized the significance of human values in an era of rapid change, highlighting the need for global compassion to address challenges such as climate change and health crises. He called for accelerated work on emerging technologies, like AI and genetic engineering, emphasizing the importance of strong ethical frameworks.
Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Governor of the Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Chairman of FII Institute, underlined the theme's relevance in today's circumstances, emphasizing the need for hope in the future. He discussed how previous FII events focused on individual needs and hopes, while FII7 explores investment's future and humanity's top priorities. Al-Rumayyan stressed the importance of innovation and technology to drive change, highlighting the transformative potential of AI.
He also called for international collaboration to develop regulations and innovative industries and discussed the role of generative AI in the energy transition. Al-Rumayyan expressed pride in Saudi Arabia's economic growth and the PIF's role in diversifying the economy and creating new opportunities, including the addition of 90 new companies to its portfolio and the generation of over 560,000 jobs to make a positive impact locally and globally.
