Riyadh hosts inaugural International Conference on Sand and Dust Storms

Jeddah, March 02, 2024, The debut International Conference on Sand and Dust Storms, set to kick off in Riyadh on Monday, will delve into pivotal themes surrounding dust storms, with a particular focus on transboundary occurrences. The conference will encompass a wide array of topics including cutting-edge technologies and global research initiatives, addressing the genesis of dust aerosols, the interplay between dust and climate, health ramifications, strategies for mitigation and monitoring, predictive modeling, as well as the economic and infrastructural impacts of dust storms, along with their transport and deposition mechanisms.

Jumaan Al-Qahtani, Vice Executive President of Meteorological Services (NCM) and Executive Director of the Sand and Dust Storm Warning Regional Center, emphasized the significance of this landmark international gathering, highlighting its alignment with the Regional Center's mission of regional coordination and its substantial contributions to the attainment of pertinent objectives through a series of specialized programs, workshops, and consultations.

Over the course of three days, the conference will witness the participation of delegates from the World Meteorological Organization, alongside the engagement of more than 200 researchers, experts, and specialists representing various international bodies and organizations, underscoring the global significance and collaborative spirit of this inaugural event.
