Riyadh, February 11, 2024, Riyadh is poised to host the inaugural Space Debris Conference, under the theme "Securing the Future Growth of the Global Space Economy," commencing later today, on Sunday. Gathering over 260 experts and renowned speakers from more than 50 countries, the event marks a significant milestone in the region.
Among the distinguished attendees are Eng. Abdullah Al-Swaha, Chairman of the Saudi Space Agency (SSA); Mohammed bin Saud Al-Tamimi, CEO of the SSA; and Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Notable personalities such as Aarti Holla-Maini, Director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), as well as specialists from renowned institutions like the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the European Space Agency, along with representatives from Japan, Britain, and France, will also grace the conference.
Organized by the SSA in collaboration with the Communications, Space & Technology Commission (CST) and UNOOSA as a content partner, the conference aims to foster a global platform for dialogue and bolster international cooperation in addressing the challenges posed by space debris, thus highlighting the Kingdom's leadership in this crucial domain.
Furthermore, the event seeks to facilitate partnerships and exchange of expertise among global, regional, and local entities within the space sector. Encouraging collaboration between governmental bodies, private enterprises, and academic institutions to innovate solutions and mitigate the impact of space debris constitutes a primary objective.
Anticipated outcomes include the translation of visions and ideas into actionable procedures, eagerly awaited by the global space community. Moreover, the conference is expected to reinforce Saudi Arabia's commitment to peaceful space exploration while contributing to the growth and security of the global space economy.
