RIYADH April 4, 2025: Riyadh transforms into a captivating destination during Eid Al-Fitr, offering popular picnic spots for families and nature enthusiasts.

A favored location is Wadi Hanifa, a peaceful valley in the city’s heart, featuring lush greenery, artificial lakes, water channels, and a variety of wildlife, making it an ideal getaway for outdoor activities.

Mohammed Abdul Jaleel, a Lebanese visitor, shared: “We’re enjoying a barbecue with family and friends, celebrating Eid joyfully. The weather is perfect, and the kids are playing, making the most of this time before summer.”

He continued: “Whether hiking, cycling, or picnicking by the water, Wadi Hanifa offers a refreshing natural escape.”

Resident Baddiuzz Zaman Sheikh, also spending Eid with friends, said: “It’s a fantastic picnic spot. I often come here for barbecues. Surrounded by mountains and lakes, it’s a favorite place to unwind.”

Known to many, Wadi Hanifa has transformed from a waste site into a green oasis, thanks to the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, with gardens, wetlands, and thousands of trees.

Besides evening strolls and picnics, Wadi Hanifa is a global destination for runners, with groomed trails near the Diplomatic Quarter featuring an 8 km loop through the desert. South of the valley, Stone Dam Park challenges athletes with a 210-step staircase.

Jamal Hassan, a Yemeni expat, said: “This beautiful valley on Riyadh’s outskirts offers water channels, green corridors, walkways, and picnic areas amid orchards and farms, making it a top attraction.”

He added, “Riyadh needed a place like this — a peaceful escape from the city hustle. It’s the perfect spot to relax.”

Wadi Namar, located south of Riyadh, is another favorite Eid picnic spot, with its dam, lake, and scenic waterfall drawing visitors year-round.

Tabinda Qamar, who visited with her family, said: “On Eid’s first day, it was so crowded that security asked us to return the next day. We did and had a wonderful time. The park is spacious, with play areas for kids, making it ideal for families.”

Salam Park is also popular, featuring a large illuminated lake with fountains, playgrounds, green spaces, and recreational areas. Originally a private farm, it was transformed into a public space to meet the city’s need for open areas.

Rumana Ambar, who visited Salam Park with her family, said: “It’s a natural retreat in the busy city — perfect for holidays with loved ones. With well-maintained facilities, it’s one of Riyadh’s top attractions.
