Riyadh to Host LIV Golf Promotions Tournament

American golfer John Catlin leads the participant lineup, following his successful performances in the previous season, including a victory at the Macau Championship and two runner-up finishes.
LIV Golf announced the second annual Promotions Tournament, taking place from December 12-14 at Riyadh Golf Club, offering players a chance to secure a spot in the LIV Golf League and the 2025 International Series.

On November 1, 2024, LIV Golf officially unveiled the full schedule and competitive format for the highly anticipated second annual LIV Golf Promotions Tournament. Scheduled for December 12-14, this event will provide elite players from around the world an opportunity to secure their place in the prestigious LIV Golf League and the International Series for the 2025 season. Set against the scenic backdrop of Riyadh Golf Club, the championship promises intense competition across four rounds, culminating in a challenging 36-hole showdown on the final day.

Designed as an elite gateway to the LIV Golf League, the tournament offers players a direct pathway into professional golf’s most innovative tour. The stakes are high: the first-place finisher will earn a coveted spot in the LIV Golf League for 2025, while the top 10 competitors, including ties, will secure guaranteed access to all International Series events next year, as sanctioned by the Asian Tour. For those vying for top honors, the tournament champion will be awarded a generous prize of $1.5 million, which is expected to bring a heightened level of excitement and drive among participants.

LIV Golf’s chief executive, Greg Norman, explained the tournament’s multi-round format and its rigorous selection process aimed at ensuring the highest level of play. The event will feature four rounds of 18 holes each, spread over three days, with distinct qualification standards advancing players based on performance. In the first round, all players will compete, with the top 20 scorers moving forward. The leaders will then enter the second round, where scores will be reset, and new direct qualifiers will join them. In the second round, the top 20 players will again advance to the final rounds, with scores resetting once more.

On the final day, the top 20 players will compete in a demanding 36-hole round. This will serve as the deciding factor for who claims the $1.5 million prize and a guaranteed position in the 2025 LIV Golf League. Additionally, a $200,000 prize will be awarded to the ultimate tournament winner. This unique format, characterized by successive score resets, is designed to ensure that each stage of competition brings fresh intensity, allowing skilled players the opportunity to shine under renewed conditions.

Leading the field is American golfer John Catlin, a prominent figure in the golf world with an impressive track record from the previous season. Catlin, who entered six LIV Golf events as an alternate last season, has proven himself a formidable competitor. His recent success includes a victory at the Macau Championship under the International Series, along with two runner-up finishes, solidifying his position as the top-ranked entrant in this year's tournament.

As players prepare to converge in Riyadh, the anticipation surrounding this tournament is unprecedented, with the promise of a career-defining opportunity for the most talented and ambitious golfers. The second annual LIV Golf Promotions Tournament aims to deliver not only on the excitement and energy of its inaugural event but also on its mission to bring fresh talent into the world of professional golf, ultimately pushing the sport’s competitive boundaries forward.
