Rolls-Royce Middle East & Africa and Dubai AGMC celebrated World Bee Day

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Middle East & Africa and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Dubai, AGMC, celebrated World Bee Day with a special educational event.

  • In observance of World Bee Day, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Middle East & Africa and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Dubai, AGMC, join apiculturists, naturalists, and conservationists worldwide.

  • This year, more than 60 pupils traveled to the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Apiary in Dubai to learn about the vital function bees provide in our daily lives.

Bees are vitally essential to biodiversity and the production of food for humans as they pollinate a wide variety of flowering plants. World Bee Day serves as a reminder of the critical need to preserve and protect these intriguing and vital species. The Dubai Apiary, which has welcomed more than 60 of the city's best young minds to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of bees and support us in our aim to raise awareness of the problems facing these amazing creatures, has graciously allowed us to celebrate World Bee Day this year.

On Saturday, May 20, 2023, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Middle East & Africa and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Dubai, AGMC, celebrated World Bee Day with a special educational event. The spectacular Rolls-Royce Apiary, located inside the verdant grounds of Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club, was visited by a group of 19 pupils of all ages from nearby schools, where they participated in a range of bee-related activities.

The students visited the apiary after an introduction and question-and-answer session, where they observed the many stages of the bees' lifecycle and learned about the 'Emirati Queen' bee's function as the hub of hive society and the significance of pollination. They learned how the six hives in the apiary were created and constructed specifically to survive Dubai's climate. The students were given the opportunity to operate as junior beekeepers after receiving their new expertise, harvesting honey while learning how to distinguish "real" honey from imitation products during a special tasting. Additionally, the children created seed bombs, a creative and efficient way to grow wildflowers and other plants that are an essential source of food for bees.

On World Bee Day in 2021, the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Apiary was opened in Dubai. It is based on the incredibly productive apiary at the Rolls-Royce Home in Goodwood, England, where six opulent hives have since 2017 supported a colony of more than 250,000 European honey bees. To date, in 2023, more than 60 local schoolchildren have visited the Dubai Apiary.

Bees are essential to biodiversity, thriving ecosystems, and food security since they pollinate more than 75% of the world's food crops and the vast majority of the wild blooming plant species. However, because of changes in farming methods and land usage, habitat loss, pesticide use, and escalating temperatures brought on by climate change, their populations have decreased internationally in recent decades. The UN declared May 20 as World Bee Day to encourage people throughout the world to safeguard these pollinators and their habitats while also bringing attention to the value of bees and the risks they face.

The Rolls-Royce Automobiles Dubai APIary

The Dubai Apiary has six hives with the names Phantom, Ghost, Wraith, Dawn, Cullinan, and Spirit of Ecstasy, just like the original at the Home of Rolls-Royce. The apiary, which was constructed from cedar and painted white to withstand the high humidity and temperatures of the city, is home to about 60,000 bees and six "Emirati Queens," which were kindly donated by the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) and are lovingly cared for by experts from The Beekeepers Foundation, United Arab Emirates.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Middle East & Africa and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Dubai (AGMC) have been actively committed to assisting with public education on the value of these remarkable creatures in our ecosystem since their launch, which coincided with World Bee Day on May 20, 2021.

We at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Middle East & Africa and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars AGMC are all very passionate about and committed to the Rolls-Royce Apiary initiative. We are very delighted to see the apiary inspire bright and inquisitive minds. In addition to educating people, under the direction of the Beekeepers Foundation in Dubai, the apiary functions as a refuge to help bees and other pollinator species survive. For their extraordinary commitment and help with our apiary program, I would like to thank all of the volunteers, the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA), and Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.

The regional PR and communications manager for the Middle East and Africa at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is Rami Joudi.
