The beautiful Black Badge Cullinan 'Blue Shadow' Private Collection, which explores the wonder and mystery of space, is proudly presented by Rolls-Royce. Leading Rolls-Royce designers got inspiration for this one-of-a-kind design from the Kármán Line, the invisible line that divides Earth's atmosphere from outer space 62 miles above the planet's surface.

The blue of the sky we see on Earth disappears into the darkness of space in this mystical, ethereal region, creating an intense dark-blue zone where darkness is visible. It is a stunning, silent, and enigmatic realm that is only accessible to a select group of daring individuals, perfectly capturing the essence of Blue Shadow.

One Black Badge Cullinan is offered in this new bespoke interpretation for every mile from Earth to the Kármán Line, and it is only available through the marque's private offices.

THE SHADES OF BLUE, exterior

The stunning, glittering new Bespoke "Stardust Blue" exterior paint perfectly mimics the rich, deep blue of the Earth's upper atmosphere. The satin-tinted grille surround and aero bumper insert sets evoke the finish of the thermal tiles used to protect homebound Space Shuttles from the severe heat of atmospheric re-entry.

Further borrowing from aerospace materials, the Spirit of Ecstasy is made of titanium utilizing 3D printing processes and is coated with a thin coating of blue-tinted lacquer that adds pearlescence and reveals the grained texture of the metal. On the Spirit of Ecstasy base, Charles Blue has been used to fill in the engraving of the Black Badge infinity logo and the word "Blue Shadow" from the Private Collection. Blue Shadow's wheels are softly tinted using a translucent lacquer to complete the outside appearance.

Elevated perspective of the interior

The visible border of Earth's atmosphere appears as an ethereal blue halo near the Kármán line. Azure Shadow's distinctive painted fascia and door panels represent this change from the azure sky to the inky blackness of space. These had a captivating three-dimensional aspect and were made with six layers of paint, five various blue hues, and a dark black color. A clear-coat layer that incorporates blue and transparent glass particles as the finishing touch adds more depth and sparkle; the ratio was accurately calculated to be exactly 0.05%. A bespoke clock with 'Blue Shadow' etching and light blue anodized accents that is exclusive to the Private Collection completes the fascia.

Headliner for "Edge of Space"

With "Blue Shadow," Rolls-Royce has elevated the legendary Starlight Headliner to even greater heights: a complex moon embroidery, encircled by a variety of "stars," transports the occupants to the furthest reaches of space. The embroidery uses five different colors of thread, each applied in a unique way to create a unique texture, to depict the moon's surface with its abundance of craters in three dimensions. The needlework is made up of 250,000 individual stitches in total, and it takes two whole days to complete.

The Starlight Headliner has 1,183 stars in all, 799 white and 384 blue, all painstakingly inserted into the leather canvas through perforated holes, meticulously chalked and punched by hand. It gives the cabin a soft glow and a sense of wonder. The headliner's sparkling effect of the fiber-optic stars is significantly intensified for an even more entrancing light to add to its mystique and atmosphere.

Perforated leather is the new art canvas.

The front and back seats in the Rolls-Royce feature original perforated artwork that was inspired by the view of Earth from orbit. The design, which is created by a great deal of tiny perforations in the leather, gives the appearance of organic, ever-changing clouds flowing over the continents and oceans.

The smaller (just 0.8 mm in diameter) and somewhat bigger (1.2 mm) perforations define the terrain, while the empty spaces of leather in between serve as a representation of the clouds. Over 75,000 separate perforations, one for each seat, are present. Before the pattern achieved the outstanding degree of excellence demanded by the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Collective, it took two weeks to create and five trials. As a result, the design is perfectly aligned, guaranteeing a unified, consistent appearance throughout all four seats.

The picnic table backs have the same perforated design as the seats. Once lowered, the picnic tables feature a glass sparkle finish and a piano black veneer finish that evokes a look into the void of space. Under the top layer of lacquer, each table also has the inscription describing the collection: "The Blue Shadow occurs at the outer extremes of our world, affording an extraordinary perspective and the ability to touch the stars."
