Gillian Keegan, Rt. Hon., Chichester Member of Parliament

An important survey exposes the entire and astonishing influence of the corporation on the regional and national economies as Rolls-Royce Motor Cars celebrates 20 years of manufacture at Goodwood.

Dr. Alexander Grous of the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) supervised the independent study, the first in Rolls-Royce's history to be commissioned by the company, which contains data through the year 2022. This study is also unequivocal evidence that Great Britain secures its position as a hub of design, craft, and technical excellence on the global arena, and consequently, the nation, by placing extraordinary items in the hands of the world's most powerful people.

ECONOMICAL CONTRIBUTION IN GENERAL

According to the LSE analysis, Rolls-Royce has made more than £4 billion in economic contributions to the UK since it started producing cars at Goodwood in 2003, serving as a national symbol for the luxury and auto industries and, most importantly, "UK PLC." This is a sustained, long-term contribution. Rolls-Royce makes an annual investment of about £10 million in its infrastructure and business operations to support production, which is seen in a string of'record years' that peaked in 2022 with more than 6,000 automobiles sold globally. In addition, Rolls-Royce can attest to being among the biggest employers in West Sussex, England.

SUPPORTING JOBS, INTERNATIONALLY AND LOCALLY

At the Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood, more than 2,500 people work, including 150 new positions established in 2022 alone. Within its larger national supply chain, the company supports more than 7,500 more full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs. One of the very few UK manufacturers to keep all of its employees on board throughout the Covid-19 pandemic was Rolls-Royce, which made no redundancies at all.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is one of the biggest employers in West Sussex and significantly boosts the local economy. Including salaries and wages paid to employees at the Home of Rolls-Royce, almost 20% of its total yearly contribution is produced directly in West Sussex and its neighboring counties. A further 1,000 direct and indirect jobs are supported by the company's Technology and Logistics Centre (TLC), which is located eight miles away in Bognor Regis.

INEFFECTIVE AND INDIRECT CONTRIBUTIONS

By conducting cutting-edge research and development in areas including hardware, software, electrification, digitalization, and vehicle connection, Rolls-Royce supports the regional and national knowledge economies. Rolls-Royce has committed to using only electric propulsion by the end of 2030, therefore these efforts are fast expanding in scope and significance.

According to the LSE study, Rolls-Royce actively promotes considerable innovation, growth, and improvements throughout its wider supply chain. To meet the strict criteria of Rolls-Royce, numerous small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) have adopted new technologies, procedures, and practices, raising standards and enhancing competitiveness throughout a sizable portion of the UK industrial base.

The local economy and population also gain significant intangible benefits from Rolls-Royce. For instance, it supports more than 100 internship, graduate, and apprenticeship positions each year in collaboration with regional further and higher education institutions, creating chances for well-paying, highly skilled employment. The March CE Primary School, which is next to the Goodwood site, received a dedicated new parking lot as part of a recent project. The corporation also recently supported neighborhood mentorship and work-based activities. Additionally, each year, employees nominate their House Charity, which raises large funds for regional charitable groups.

AN UNPARENTED SUCCESS STORY

The Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood will be expanded, according to plans made official by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. It has purchased land to the east of the current location, and later this year it will apply for planning clearance.

The main goal of the project is to modernize the manufacturing facility because some facilities and equipment are 20 years old and need to be replaced or upgraded. Along with planning for its new generation of electric vehicles, the business is also looking to expand capacity for its Bespoke and Coachbuild operations. The first customer deliveries of the Rolls-Royce Spectre, an all-electric super-coupé, are scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2023. By the end of 2030, all new Rolls-Royce vehicles will be electric.

However, the growth does not signify a change in the marque's core beliefs or methods: Rolls-Royce has never been, and it never will be, a volume-driven company. The brand's transition from a purely automotive manufacturer to a true luxury house producing the greatest, most recognizable, and most expensive Bespoke products in the world will be reflected in the new building.
