SAFF launches Custodian of Two Holy Mosques Cup in Riyadh

Riyadh, March 13, 2024, The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) is set to inaugurate the latest edition of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup for the 2023-2024 season on Wednesday in the capital city of Riyadh.

The launch event will coincide with the draw for the semi-final round of the competition, featuring the participation of prominent clubs including Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Khaleej, and Al-Ittihad.

This unveiling follows the conclusion of the previous edition, which saw Al-Hilal Club emerge victorious, securing their fourth title in the competition's history (previously triumphing in 2015, 2017, 2020, and 2023). Paragraph 4 of Article 27 of the regulatory rules governing the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup mandates that a club winning the cup three consecutive times or four times intermittently earns the privilege of retaining the cup.

Renowned as the most prestigious domestic championship in Saudi Arabia, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup has witnessed ten past champions, including Al-Ahli, Al-Hilal, Al-Ittihad, Al-Nassr, Al-Shabab, Al-Ettifaq, Al-Wehda, Al-Fayha, Al-Faisaly, and Al-Taawoun.

The champion of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup not only receives a lucrative prize of SAR 10 million but also secures direct berths in both the Saudi Super Cup and the AFC Champions League, further amplifying the significance of this esteemed tournament on the domestic and regional football landscape.
