On October 22, 2024, the Saudi Air Navigation Services Company (SANS) successfully hosted the 13th meeting of the MIDANPIRG Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance Sub-Group (CNS SG/13), along with the 10th meeting of the MIDANPIRG Air Traffic Management Sub-Group. This marked the first time these significant events were held in Saudi Arabia, under the supervision of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA). These meetings brought together experts and representatives from across the aviation sector to discuss advancements and strategies for improving air traffic management in the Middle East.
The gathering saw participation from over 80 delegates, representing 18 countries, as well as key stakeholders from international organizations, including the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and PCCW Global. A notable segment of the event was the working group meeting for Flight and Flow Information for a Collaborative Environment (FF-ICE), organized under the guidance of the Secretariat General of the Gulf Cooperation Council. This meeting was focused on identifying practical solutions and implementing effective strategies to achieve shared objectives in enhancing air traffic systems and collaboration among member states.
The event highlighted SANS's commitment to fostering active participation in the global aviation community, emphasizing the company’s role in advancing innovative solutions to improve air traffic management in the region. Hosting such prestigious international gatherings underscores Saudi Arabia’s growing influence and leadership in the field of aviation, particularly in the Middle East, and its dedication to ensuring safe and efficient air navigation.
The timing of the meetings was also significant, as they preceded the International Day of the Air Traffic Controller, celebrated annually on October 20. This day honors the vital work of air traffic controllers worldwide in ensuring the safety and efficiency of air navigation. SANS marked the occasion with a special commemoration involving representatives from international and regional civil aviation organizations, as well as more than 700 Saudi air traffic controllers. The celebration emphasized the critical role these professionals play in maintaining the smooth and safe operation of global airspace.
Through hosting these important meetings and celebrating air traffic controllers, SANS showcased its leadership in the aviation sector, highlighting its ongoing efforts to adopt cutting-edge technologies and collaborative strategies to improve air traffic safety and management throughout the region.
