Riyadh, March 10, 2024, Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) has entered into a contractual agreement with Maersk, a prominent sea shipping company, aimed at augmenting the volume of container transport on SAR trains connecting King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam to Riyadh Dry Port.
The three-year contract, signed by SAR CEO Bashar Khalid Al-Malik and Maersk Saudi Arabia CEO Mohammad Shihab, underscores a commitment to bolstering container transportation via the eastbound train route. This initiative seeks to provide secure and sustainable transportation solutions while enhancing the Kingdom's competitiveness and advancing its strategic objectives in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030.
Moreover, the agreement is poised to enhance operational efficiency, curtail truck traffic between Dammam and Riyadh, mitigate carbon emissions, and preserve road infrastructure. Al-Malik emphasized the pivotal role of such contracts in fortifying the shipping sector and reiterated SAR's unwavering dedication to delivering innovative solutions aimed at optimizing operational efficiency at both King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam and Riyadh Dry Port, thereby fostering overall advancements in the transportation sector.
For his part, Shihab emphasized that the contract signifies a collaborative effort between Maersk and SAR towards digital transformation and sustainable logistics. He underscored its potential to elevate Dammam Port to a pivotal regional hub within global trade routes, serving local markets and extending connectivity to neighboring countries in the region.
