Rio de Janeiro, November 20, 2024 – On the sidelines of the G20 Summit, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan met with his Brazilian counterpart, Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, to discuss a broad range of issues impacting the bilateral relationship between Saudi Arabia and Brazil, as well as regional and international developments. The high-level meeting underscored the growing cooperation between the two nations and highlighted their mutual commitment to fostering stronger diplomatic ties.

The ministers took a significant step forward in their collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that establishes the Saudi-Brazilian Coordination Council. This pivotal agreement builds on the foundations laid during the state visit of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to Saudi Arabia in November 2023, where the two countries’ leaders discussed enhancing strategic cooperation across various sectors. The creation of the Coordination Council is expected to provide a structured platform for deeper dialogue and coordination on political, economic, and cultural matters, reinforcing the bilateral partnership and aligning both countries’ priorities.

The meeting also focused on current regional and global developments, with the two ministers exchanging perspectives on key issues, including economic cooperation, regional security, and the promotion of sustainable development goals. The establishment of the Saudi-Brazilian Coordination Council is seen as a pivotal move to strengthen the longstanding relationship between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Brazil, reflecting both nations' desire to deepen their engagement on the world stage.

In addition to Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Minister Mauro Vieira, the meeting was attended by key Saudi officials, including Abdulrahman Aldawood, the Director-General of the Office of the Foreign Minister, and Dr. Faisal bin Ibrahim Ghulam, the Saudi Ambassador to Brazil. Their presence further emphasized the importance of the discussions and the shared commitment to advancing the diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between the two countries.

The MoU signing and subsequent discussions serve as a testament to the ongoing efforts of both Saudi Arabia and Brazil to solidify their partnership, addressing mutual interests and paving the way for future collaboration in a rapidly changing global landscape. Through initiatives like the Saudi-Brazilian Coordination Council, the two nations aim to work together more closely to achieve shared goals and respond to the dynamic challenges of the 21st century.
