Riyadh, April 13, 2024, The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through its dedicated humanitarian entity, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), has been actively extending a range of relief and humanitarian aid initiatives to needy populations worldwide. Among these efforts is the crucial support for food security through Zakat Al-Fitr, an obligatory charitable donation of food to the less fortunate that is given after Ramadan before the Eid Al-Fitr prayer.
For the year 1445 Hijri, KSrelief's Zakat Al-Fitr distributions were impactful in several countries. In Somalia, 40,920 bags of rice, each weighing 20 kilograms, were distributed, benefiting 245,520 individuals. In Yemen, the initiative included 31,333 bags of rice, also weighing 20 kilograms each, supporting 219,331 individuals. Additionally, in Syria, 62,250 bags of wheat, each weighing 25 kilograms, were distributed, benefiting 373,500 underprivileged individuals.
The scope of KSrelief's humanitarian efforts extends beyond food assistance. Since its establishment, KSrelief has reached 98 countries and executed a remarkable 2,829 humanitarian and relief projects valued at $6 billion. These projects have been strategically targeted at vital sectors such as food security, education, healthcare, nutrition, water access, environmental sanitation, and shelter. Importantly, KSrelief's initiatives have positively impacted millions of the most vulnerable and needy individuals in the targeted countries, operating without discrimination to provide aid based on need.
