Dr. Hala bint Mazyad Al-Tuwaijri, President of the Human Rights Commission, led the Saudi Arabian delegation in the third round of the joint human rights dialogue between the Kingdom and the European Union. Hosted in Brussels, the dialogue, co-headed by Eamon Gilmore, the European Union’s Special Representative for Human Rights, addressed various issues. Dr. Al-Tuwaijri highlighted the Kingdom's human rights reforms and emphasized the importance of distinguishing freedom of opinion and expression from hate speech and extremism. Expressing concern over events in Gaza, she underscored the need for objective handling of human rights issues and non-selectivity in applying standards, especially during the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. During a bilateral meeting with Eamon Gilmore, aspects of constructive cooperation in promoting and protecting human rights were discussed.
