Eng. Saleh Al-Jasser, the Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, signed a crucial air services agreement with Fanday Turay, Sierra Leone's Minister of Transport and Aviation. This agreement, inked during the International Conference on Air Services Negotiations (ICAN 2023) organized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Riyadh, serves as an essential supplement to the 1944 Chicago Convention.
The agreement is designed to establish regulatory frameworks ensuring safe and efficient air transport between the two nations. Aligned with the principles of the Chicago Convention, it covers diverse aspects such as transport rights, airline designation and licensing standards, air safety, aviation security, fair competition rules, and the promotion of economic interests for national carriers. The agreement facilitates the active participation of the countries' national carriers in the air transport market, encompassing various types of air traffic and embracing modern market entry patterns.
This collaborative effort aligns with the civil aviation sector strategy, emphasizing international partnerships and agreement signings to support ambitious goals. These goals, outlined in the strategy, aim to elevate Saudi Arabia's air connectivity globally, with a target of reaching 250 destinations, transforming into a global logistics platform, and annually transporting 330 million passengers by 2030.
