Geneva, February 28, 2025 — In a powerful address before the United Nations Human Rights Council, Ambassador Abdulmohsen bin Khothaila, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s permanent representative to the UN and international organizations in Geneva, reaffirmed the Kingdom's unwavering commitment to supporting Sudan and its people during their ongoing crisis. The ambassador emphasized Saudi Arabia's proactive role in fostering peace and stability in Sudan, stressing the importance of a sustainable political solution that would protect the country from further destruction and prevent the continuation of the horrors of war.

Ambassador Khothaila outlined the Kingdom’s significant efforts to mediate the crisis, particularly its collaboration with the United States in facilitating peace talks between the warring parties in Sudan. These talks, held in Jeddah, were designed to address immediate humanitarian concerns, protect civilians, and establish a ceasefire. The discussions also sought to lay the groundwork for a comprehensive political solution aimed at ensuring Sudan's security, stability, and institutional cohesion, while preventing the collapse of the country's vital state structures.

The ambassador’s remarks highlighted Saudi Arabia’s belief that a resolution to the Sudanese crisis begins with the cessation of hostilities and the strengthening of the humanitarian response to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people. He stressed that this humanitarian effort is critical to paving the way for a stable, secure, and prosperous political future for Sudan—one that meets the aspirations of its citizens and lays a foundation for long-term peace and development.

Ambassador Khothaila’s speech underscored Saudi Arabia's broader foreign policy commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East and beyond. By facilitating dialogue and providing diplomatic support, Saudi Arabia has positioned itself as a key player in the search for solutions to regional conflicts. The Kingdom remains deeply dedicated to the welfare of Sudan and to working alongside international partners to achieve a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
