Foz do Iguacu, September 12, 2024 — The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Federative Republic of Brazil have strengthened their bilateral space cooperation with a new agreement signed today. This agreement, formalized by the Saudi Space Agency (SSA) and the Brazilian Space Agency, aims to enhance collaboration in the exploration and peaceful utilization of outer space.
The signing took place during the fifth Space Economy Leaders Meeting (SELM), which is being held from September 11 to 13 in Foz do Iguacu, Brazil. This high-profile event brings together space agency leaders from the Group of Twenty (G20) nations, along with executives from prominent Brazilian space companies.
Dr. Mohammed bin Saud Altamimi, the Chief Executive of SSA, highlighted the significance of this partnership. He noted that the Kingdom's space ambitions, strongly supported by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Supreme Space Council, reflect Saudi Arabia’s goal to become a leading player in the burgeoning space economy, projected to reach $2 trillion by 2035.
The agreement covers a broad spectrum of space-related activities, including fundamental research in space science, remote sensing, advancements in space communications technology, space biology, weather monitoring, satellite R&D, and the development of ground infrastructure for space systems.
