Cairo, October 16, 2024 – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, through its Ministry of Municipalities and Housing, led the 89th meeting of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Housing and Reconstruction Ministers today. The meeting, hosted by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, brought together Arab ministers and representatives responsible for housing and reconstruction from across the member states of the office. This key gathering aimed to address pressing issues related to housing and urban development across the region.
A central focus of the discussions was the progress and implementation of the Arab Strategy for Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, an initiative designed to guide Arab countries in achieving sustainable housing solutions that meet the needs of growing populations. The meeting also reviewed the integration of the New Urban Agenda and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, underscoring the region’s commitment to aligning national housing policies with global objectives for sustainability and inclusive growth.
In addition to these strategic discussions, the participants explored avenues for strengthening cooperation with Arab, regional, and international organizations, as well as Arab federations that work in the housing and reconstruction sectors. These collaborations are seen as vital to enhancing the council’s work program for 2025, which aims to address key challenges in urban planning, housing accessibility, and infrastructure development.
The meeting reaffirmed the importance of regional collaboration in tackling the shared challenges of urbanization and sustainable development, with Saudi Arabia playing a leading role in shaping the future of housing and reconstruction efforts in the Arab world.
