Saudi Arabia commemorates Flag Day on historic adoption anniversary

Ahmed Saleh

Riyadh, March 10, 2024, Monday will mark Flag Day in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, commemorating the significant occasion when King Abdulaziz formally adopted the national flag on Dhu al-Hijjah 27, 1355 AH, equivalent to March 11, 1937 AD.

The Saudi flag, an emblem of the state's inception nearly three centuries ago, carries profound symbolism encapsulating principles of tawhid (monotheism), justice, resilience, progress, and prosperity.

This commemoration holds deep significance, reflecting the enduring importance of the national flag throughout the rich history of the Saudi state, dating back to its establishment in 1139 AH, corresponding to 1727 AD.

Embedded within the design of the flag is the concept of tawhid, emblematic of the message of peace and Islam upon which the nation stands. The sword, meanwhile, symbolizes strength, honor, wisdom, and a distinguished position.

Throughout the passage of nearly three centuries, the Saudi flag has stood witness to the consolidation efforts undertaken by the state, emerging as a steadfast symbol of pride held high by the citizens of the nation, unwavering in their commitment to upholding its honor and never allowing it to be lowered.
