The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization is leading the charge to bring about a sustainable transformation of livestock, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has emphasized that it will continue to assist the camelid industry in order to make a contribution to this transformation. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia stressed the significance of camels in the advancement of sustainable development goals (SDGs), which include the reduction of hunger, the elimination of poverty, and the preservation of terrestrial ecosystems. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia delivered these comments during the FAO Council meetings in Rome to discuss the International Year of Camelids 2024.
Eng. Ahmed bin Saleh Al-Ayada, who is the undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture for Agriculture and the chairman of the steering committee for the International Year of Camelids 2024, was the one who presented the address. He was the leader of the Saudi delegation, which consisted of three different government agencies. Eng. Al-Ayada stated that Saudi Arabia has the honor of leading the steering committee for the International Year of Camelids 2024, a partnership with Bolivia.
This distinction is an acknowledgment of Saudi Arabia's efforts to promote this vital sector. He stated that this support includes the launch of initiatives, programs, and festivals to benefit the camelid sector, which represents a rich cultural and heritage legacy. His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, is leading this support. He claimed that the Kingdom had contributed more than 844 thousand dollars to the International Year of Camelids. Furthermore, he announced the introduction of research funds by the Kingdom, known as the "Camel Studies Grant," to support studies focused on the camelid industry's development and sustainability. Academics worldwide will have access to these grants.
