First Round of Consultations: The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia held their first round of political consultations in Riyadh, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation in various sectors.

Riyadh, December 2, 2024 – In a significant diplomatic development, the first round of political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia was held today at the Ministry’s headquarters in Riyadh. The meeting provided a crucial platform for both nations to deepen their political and diplomatic ties, enhancing bilateral relations and exploring new avenues for cooperation.


The Saudi delegation was led by Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Eng. Waleed El-Khereiji, a seasoned diplomat with extensive experience in advancing Saudi Arabia’s foreign policy. The Ethiopian delegation was headed by Ambassador Mesganu Arga, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, a key figure in Ethiopia’s international relations. This high-level meeting emphasized the mutual commitment of both countries to foster closer collaboration in a wide range of areas, including trade, investment, security, and cultural exchange.


A central focus of the consultations was the strengthening of cooperation between the two nations in areas of strategic importance. Discussions also covered ongoing developments in regional and international affairs, reflecting the importance both Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia place on addressing shared challenges and opportunities in the Middle East, Horn of Africa, and beyond.


The meeting was attended by several senior officials, underscoring the significance of the consultations. Notably, Saudi Ambassador to Ethiopia Dr. Fahd Al-Humaidani, Director General of Expatriate Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Dr. Mohammed Al-Shammari, and Ethiopian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Dr. Muktar Kedir Abdu all participated, contributing their expertise and perspectives on the evolving diplomatic landscape.


This round of political consultations is seen as a positive step toward solidifying the diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia, both of which have shown a growing interest in expanding their cooperation in various sectors. It also reflects the broader objectives of both nations to play a more active and collaborative role in shaping regional and global policies.
