Saudi Arabia hosts Arab Women's Health Initiative regional meeting collaboration

Riyadh, October 11, 2023, The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is set to host the regional gathering of the Arab Women's Health Initiative, a collaborative effort between the Family Affairs Council, the Arab League, and the Women Development Organization of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Scheduled for October 16 and 17 in Riyadh, this event underscores Saudi Arabia's commitment to women's health issues.

During its presidency of the 39th session of the Arab Women's Committee, Saudi Arabia put forth a proposal to extend the scope of the Pink Tank initiative, a program dedicated to promoting breast cancer awareness in the Arab world, to encompass all forms of cancer that affect women.

Dr. Maimoonah Al Khalil, Secretary General of the Family Affairs Council, emphasized that the regional meeting of the Arab Women's Health Initiative aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to ensure healthy lifestyles for all individuals. The focus of the meeting will be on cancer prevention and treatment.

Under the banner "Your Life is Precious," the event coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. It seeks to underscore the importance of women's health, promote awareness about the significance of early screening and detection for breast and cervical cancer.

The meeting's agenda encompasses a comprehensive examination of the current status of women's health in the Arab region, regional and global efforts to combat breast and cervical cancer, addressing the needs of women impacted by cancer and survivors, and exploring risk factors, preventive measures, and strategies for living with cancer.
