Saudi Arabia hosts the 12th OIC Statistical Commission session in Jeddah

Riyadh, October 01, 2023, Saudi Arabia is set to host the 12th session of the Statistical Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on October 3rd and 4th in Jeddah. This event, gathering heads of official statistical centers from OIC member states, underscores the Kingdom's regional and international significance.


Saudi Arabia's hosting of this event outside of Turkey for the first time underscores its prominent role in the Arab and Islamic world. It reflects the Kingdom's commitment to fostering collaboration and communication among Islamic nations, facilitating the exchange of statistical data and expertise to support their development initiatives.


The 12th session's primary objective is to enhance the technical and scientific capabilities of statistical personnel within member states' official statistical organizations. It aims to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices to produce high-quality statistics. The session will also establish specific goals and principles to encourage solidarity and cooperation among Islamic countries.


The comprehensive agenda encompasses various activities geared toward the production and dissemination of reliable statistical data and indicators, following internationally recognized methodologies and standards. Additionally, it seeks to outline a strategic vision for strengthening statistical systems, alongside short, medium, and long-term plans to realize this vision. Emphasis is placed on enhancing the technical proficiency of national statistical agencies within Islamic countries, further promoting their collective development.
