London, March 03, 2024, The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia actively engaged in the 40th session of the Editorial and Technical (E&T) group of the Subcommittee on the Carriage of Cargoes and Containers at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) held in London. The Saudi delegation comprised experts specializing in the transportation of hazardous cargoes in sealed packaging and bulk solid cargoes. The primary objective of the meeting was to scrutinize all technical and drafting matters pertaining to proposed new or revised provisions intended for incorporation into the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes Code (IMSBC).
Throughout the gathering, a wide array of topics was deliberated, with notable focus placed on the proposed amendments (08-25) to the Solid Bulk Cargo Code, the revision of IMO circular MSC.1/Circ.1264, and the introduction of a novel module within the Global Safe Cargo Management Information System (GISIS) aimed at facilitating direct updates concerning bulk solid cargoes not featured in the Bulk Solid Cargoes Code. As a result of the discussions, amended recommendations concerning the safe utilization of insecticides aboard vessels for cargo compartment fumigation were formulated.
The Saudi delegation, representing various governmental bodies, included officials from The General Authority for Transport, the Saudi Ports Authority, the Economic Cities and Special Zones Authority, and the Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority.
