On September 12, 2024, in Cairo, the Arab League's General Secretariat held the third meeting of a joint committee of experts and officials to discuss a proposed draft Arab advisory law aimed at protecting children from recruitment in armed conflicts. Saudi Arabia participated in the meeting, which was chaired by Algeria, with a delegation led by Abdulaziz bin Nasser Al-Zaid, Director of Human Rights Departments at the Saudi Ministry of Justice. The committee consists of experts and representatives from justice and interior ministries across Arab nations.
Algeria introduced the proposal for the advisory law, which was previously submitted to the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice. During its 37th session, the Council approved the preparation of the draft law. The committee will now formulate the necessary recommendations for the next session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice, where the proposal will be reviewed for further action.
Additionally, the Council of Arab Interior Ministers will be informed of the outcomes of this meeting, highlighting the importance of creating an Arab advisory law to protect children from recruitment into armed conflicts. The meeting also underscored the need to address concerns related to the privacy and protection of children affected by these conflicts.
