Saudi Arabia Participates in GlobE Network Plenary Meeting in China

Riyadh, September 24, 2024, A Saudi delegation headed by President of the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority Mazin Al-Kahmous is participating in the Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities (GlobE Network) Plenary Meeting, held in Beijing, China, between September 24 and 27.

Speaking at the meeting, Al-Kahmous expressed gratitude and appreciation to China for hosting this important event, which comes at a time when the network seeks to exert more efforts to address the evolving patterns of crimes of corruption, including money laundering and illicit use of virtual currency.

Al-Kahmous stressed the Saudi leadership's commitment to boost cooperation to combat transnational crimes of corruption, in order to pursue corrupt individuals and track the funds obtained through their crimes, stressing the Kingdom’s support for the GlobE Network’s endeavor to realize its vision and objectives.

He said that the authority has benefited from the GlobE Network, which enables collaboration with counterpart agencies, and exchange of information concerning individuals and entities suspected of involvement in corruption, and said he hoped all network members will pool efforts to achieve its goals.

GlobE Network is an initiative launched by the Kingdom during the G20 Summit ministerial meeting hosted by Saudi Arabia in 2020. It was officially adopted by the UN on December 17, 2021, during the ninth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, held in Egypt.

The initiative was praised by UN Secretary-General António Guterres who commended the Kingdom’s role in creating the network in his speech at the opening of the first UN General Assembly special session against corruption, in 2021.

Spain was appointed chair of the network’s Steering Committee, while Saudi Arabia became vice chair.

Over the past three years, 219 anti-corruption agencies and international organizations, along with over 120 countries, joined the network, proving the success of the initiative.
