Paris, April 10, 2025 – Saudi Arabia, represented by its permanent delegation to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), is participating in the 221st session of the UNESCO Executive Board, which began on April 7 at the organization's headquarters in Paris.

The Saudi National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, alongside other relevant national entities, is also involved in the 221st session, which will run until April 17.

The Kingdom’s delegation is led by Dr. Abdulelah bin Ali Al-Tokhais, Saudi Arabia's Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, who delivered the Kingdom's address before the Executive Board member states, the board's chairperson, the president of the General Conference, and the UNESCO director-general.

Dr. Al-Tokhais emphasized the long-standing relationship between Saudi Arabia and UNESCO, noting that the Kingdom was one of the founding countries of the UN Charter in 1945. He also commended the continued collaboration between Saudi Arabia and UNESCO, especially through the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, which facilitated Saudi Arabia's hosting of the sixth International Conference on Learning Cities (ICLC 6) under the patronage of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
