Saudi Arabia prepares for 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou

RIYADH — At the 19th Asian Games, which will be held in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8, Team Saudi is ready to display their athletic skills. Over 12,000 male and female athletes representing 45 Asian nations are expected to compete in the event. 193 male and female athletes from Saudi Arabia will engage in tough competition across 19 different disciplines. These sports include table tennis, tennis, golf, athletics, equestrian, darts, fencing, shooting, rowing, weightlifting, football, basketball 5x5, handball, jujitsu, karate, kurash, and electronic sports.

Teams from Saudi Arabia are working hard to be ready for the Asian Games, putting in extensive preparation through both home and foreign camps. Their goal is to accomplish outstanding athletic accomplishments on the magnificent Asian Games stage.

Since Bangkok in 1978, Saudi Arabia has competed in the Asian Games and earned a total of 61 medals. There are also some excellent medal totals: 25 gold, 13 silver, and 23 bronze. Numerous editions of the games saw notable accomplishments, such as the one bronze medal won in New Delhi in 1982, the silver medal won in Seoul in 1986, the bronze medal won in Beijing in 1990, and the incredible nine-medal haul won in Hiroshima in 1994 (comprising one gold, three silver, and five bronze medals).

The Kingdom continued to thrive in sports in successive Asian Games iterations. In Busan 2002, Saudi Arabia won seven gold, one silver, and one bronze medal. In Doha 2006, they won 14 medals, including eight golds and six bronzes. With 13 medals in Guangzhou 2010 (five gold, three silver, and five bronze) and seven medals in Incheon 2014 (three gold, three silver, and one bronze), the trend persisted. The Kingdom's most recent performance in Jakarta 2018 brought home six medals (one gold, two silver, and three bronze), reiterating its unwavering dedication to superiority in Asian athletic events.

Team Saudi athletes are ready to compete with unshakable tenacity at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, continuing their country's heritage of sporting excellence on the world stage.
