Riyadh, November 2, 2024 — Saudi Arabia's tourism sector is experiencing extraordinary expansion, having ascended 15 positions in the global rankings for international tourism receipts. According to the latest data from the UN World Tourism Organization, the Kingdom now ranks 12th in the world, a significant leap from its standing in 2019. This upward trajectory highlights Saudi Arabia's emergence as a prominent player in the international tourism landscape.

In a press release issued today, officials announced that Saudi Arabia has led the G20 countries in tourism growth, as reported by the UN Tourism Barometer. The nation achieved an impressive 73% increase in international tourist arrivals and a staggering 207% rise in international tourism receipts during the first seven months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2019. These figures not only illustrate the Kingdom’s success as a sought-after destination but also underscore the increasing confidence tourists have in Saudi Arabia's diverse and culturally rich offerings.

The global tourism landscape is also recovering, with international tourist arrivals reaching 96% of pre-pandemic levels during the same period. An estimated 790 million tourists traveled worldwide in the first seven months of 2024, marking an 11% increase over the previous year. This resurgence reflects a growing appetite for travel and adventure as the world continues to recover from the impacts of the pandemic.

The Middle East, in particular, has solidified its position as the strongest-growing region in the tourism sector, with international arrivals soaring by 26% compared to 2019 levels. This growth can be attributed to various factors, including enhanced travel accessibility, targeted marketing initiatives, and the successful hosting of international events that showcase the region's attractions.

Saudi Arabia's commitment to diversifying its economy through tourism aligns with its Vision 2030 initiative, which aims to transform the country into a global tourism hub. With a wealth of historical sites, natural wonders, and modern entertainment options, the Kingdom is poised to capture the attention of an increasingly global audience.

As the tourism sector continues to flourish, Saudi Arabia is well on its way to solidifying its status as a leading destination in the international travel market, promising visitors an unparalleled experience that celebrates its rich heritage and vibrant future.
