On June 20, 2024, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed its ongoing backing of the Republic of Sudan in the light of actualities. Yesterday, Permanent Representative of Saudia Arabia to UN Geneva Abdulmohsen Majed Bin Khothaila participated in an interactive debate about the situation in Sudan organized by the Human Rights Council. The issues that brought to the fore all the concerns as regards ongoing military operations in Sudan and the suffering then caused were expressed in a statement made in the Human Rights Council yesterday. Additionally, he took advantage of the necessity of starting fresh conversations in order to resolve political disagreements and prevent conflict. He reaffirmed the Kingdom's support for any diplomatic agreement that respects Sudan's unity, sovereignty, and national institutions between the Sudanese and the group that is linked with them.
He also underlined the need to protect civilians, relief and humanitarian workers, and infrastructure. Moreover, he said that the talks between the two sides involved in the Sudanese dispute were being hosted by the Kingdom in Jeddah. The goal of these negotiations was to stabilize the ceasefire, come to a definitive ceasefire agreement, and resolve the conflict in a way that preserves Sudan's unity and sovereignty, helps it to reclaim its security, and advances it toward a brighter future.
