Saudi Arabia's Active Role in International Maritime Organization Assembly

Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, the Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistic Services, led the Kingdom's delegation at the 33rd session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly in London, running from Monday to December 6.

During the Kingdom's address, Saudi Ambassador to the United Kingdom Prince Khalid bin Bandar bin Sultan, the session's chairman, emphasized that Saudi Arabia's maritime endeavors align with Vision 2030, focusing on sustainability and prosperity in the sector. Since joining IMO in 1969, Saudi Arabia has actively contributed to agreements ensuring maritime navigation security, promoting safety, environmental protection, capacity building, maritime education, and training.

Ambassador Khalid highlighted the Kingdom's collaboration with IMO on environmental protection, sailor training, women's empowerment, and advancements in maritime trade and container handling. Climate issues, cooperation, and seafaring remain priorities, with notable achievements such as the 2022 export of the world's first certified shipment of blue ammonia.

The ambassador shared plans for NEOM, Saudi Arabia's future city, featuring the world's first and largest fully automated seaport and an integrated logistics center producing 600 tons of carbon-free hydrogen daily by 2026.

Saudi Arabia actively supports IMO initiatives, including IMO CARES for a green maritime future and a blue economy. It also backs GLOFOULING and GLOLITTER to protect marine systems, support island and developing nations in LRIT ship-tracking, and aids IMSO in satellite maritime communications. Saudi Arabia's commitment reflects its dedication to a sustainable future and advanced technologies for marine environment protection.
