Saudi Arabia's ARDARA Partners with Parsons and OBMI for Mega-Project AlWadi

On October 22, 2024, under the patronage of Prince Turki bin Talal, Governor of Aseer, strategic contracts were signed to develop AlWadi, a significant mixed-use waterfront project in Downtown Abha. The project, a flagship initiative by ARDARA, a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), represents a key element of the Aseer Region's broader development strategy.

The Aseer Region Development Authority and ARDARA have partnered with renowned firms Parsons and OBMI to spearhead the engineering and architectural design aspects of the project. Parsons will be responsible for overseeing the comprehensive transformation of AlWadi into a dynamic, year-round destination. This includes the creation of lakes, waterfalls, and sustainable infrastructure, as well as the design of essential networks like rainwater and flood drainage systems, roads, transportation, communications, and smart city solutions. Additionally, Parsons will be involved in landscaping natural sites and beautifying public spaces.

OBMI, an architectural design firm with a global reputation, has been chosen as the main designer. OBMI will focus on integrating artistic elements into the public areas, designing vibrant waterfronts, landmarks, smart lighting systems, and attractive signage throughout AlWadi. Their vision will be instrumental in turning this waterfront into a cultural and architectural landmark.

The first phase of the AlWadi development includes a range of high-end facilities, such as a luxury five-star hotel, a four-star hotel, a comprehensive health center, elite commercial spaces, residential units with integrated shops, and expansive green areas. Additionally, a scenic waterfront walkway will be developed to enhance the visitor experience.

Prince Turki bin Talal expressed his gratitude for the government’s ongoing support for the Aseer Region Strategy, known as Qimam and Shem (Peaks and Morals), emphasizing the critical role AlWadi will play in positioning Abha and the Aseer region as economic and cultural hubs.

Spanning over 2.5 million square meters, AlWadi will offer an impressive 30% green space, 16 kilometers of water features, and 17 kilometers of sports tracks. The project is set to enhance the economic, cultural, and heritage value of Abha city, contributing to the Aseer region’s growing prominence as a vibrant destination for both residents and visitors.
