London, August 24, 2023, The delegation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, led by the Transport General Authority (TGA), participated in a crucial meeting at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) headquarters in London. The meeting focused on the Subcommittee on the Implementation of IMO Instruments, an important platform for discussing and addressing maritime regulations and standards.
The primary objective of the meeting was to facilitate the development and revision of obligatory regulations. This was achieved by convening representatives from flag, port, and coastal states to deliberate on various aspects of implementation. These discussions encompassed the examination of comprehensive audit summary reports derived from the obligatory International Maritime Organization (IMO) member state audit scheme.
Furthermore, the meeting aimed to enhance the efficient execution of IMO instruments and assess the enduring obstacles associated with adhering to these regulations. A diverse group of government and private agencies were represented in the delegation, including the Transport General Authority, the MAWANI General Port Authority, the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, the General Directorate of the Border Guard, the Economic Cities and Special Zones Authority, and the NEOM company.
During the meeting, various significant matters were deliberated upon, including the proposed revisions to port state control procedures, the provision of support to member states in effectively implementing the Cape Town Convention, the revision of the manual for the implementation of the Department of International Safety Code, and the finalization of amendments to the draft inspection guidelines.
