Riyadh, April 01, 2025 – Ministry of Commerce spokesperson Abdulrahman Al-Hussein highlighted that next Thursday, Shawwal 5, will mark the implementation of the Kingdom’s new Law of Commercial Register and Law of Trade Names. The new Law of Commercial Register introduces significant changes, including the removal of subsidiary registers, making a single commercial register sufficient, and eliminating the requirement to specify the city of registration, allowing one registration to apply across the entire Kingdom. The law also cancels the expiration date for commercial registers, requiring only an annual data confirmation. The commercial registration number will now serve as the unified number for establishments, starting with (7). Existing subsidiary registers have a five-year grace period to comply with the new regulations. Regarding the Law of Trade Names, Al-Hussein explained that the new regulations allow the reservation and registration of trade names in English, including letters or numbers, a departure from the previous law, which only allowed Arabic names without foreign characters or numbers. The law also allows trade names to be managed independently from the establishment, enabling ownership transfers, while prohibiting the registration of identical or similar names for different establishments, even with differing activities. Additionally, the law includes provisions for reserving family names as trade names and sets criteria for prohibited or misleading names.
