Saudi Arabia achieved its goal of attracting 100 million tourists by 2030 in 2023, being recognized as the fastest-growing G20 country in tourism by the UN World Tourism Barometer, highlighting the Kingdom's commitment to sustainable tourism and infrastructure development.
The Ministry of Tourism reported a significant growth in Saudi Arabia's tourism sector, with 17.5 million international tourists welcomed between January and July 2024, marking a 10% increase from 2023 and a 73% rise compared to pre-pandemic 2019.

Riyadh, October 12, 2024 – In a recent statement by the Ministry of Tourism, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has reported significant growth in its tourism sector, particularly in the leisure and holiday segments, largely attributed to the ambitious directives of Vision 2030. Marking World Tourism Day, celebrated annually on September 27, the Ministry highlighted the remarkable influx of international visitors to the Kingdom, which welcomed 17.5 million tourists between January and July 2024. This represents a 10% increase compared to the same period in 2023 and a striking 73% rise compared to pre-pandemic figures from 2019.

Among the most notable achievements is the staggering 656% increase in tourists arriving specifically for entertainment and leisure purposes. In the first seven months of 2024 alone, 4.2 million tourists visited for these reasons, reflecting a 25% increase from the previous year and a substantial rebound from 2019 levels. This surge underscores the effectiveness of the Kingdom's long-term tourism strategy, which aims to position Saudi Arabia as a premier global destination.

The Kingdom had originally set a target of attracting 100 million tourists by 2030 but achieved this ambitious milestone in 2023—seven years ahead of schedule. This remarkable accomplishment has drawn international attention, with Saudi Arabia being recognized as the fastest-growing G20 country in the latest UN World Tourism Barometer report. According to the September 2024 report, Saudi Arabia leads not only in the growth of international tourist numbers but also in tourism revenues, further solidifying its status in the global tourism arena.

These impressive statistics reflect the Kingdom's strategic focus on developing a sustainable tourism sector, enhancing infrastructure, and promoting a diverse range of attractions that cater to both domestic and international travelers. The Ministry of Tourism’s achievements are a testament to the effectiveness of these initiatives, showcasing Saudi Arabia's commitment to becoming a key player in the field of global tourism.

As the Kingdom continues to invest in its tourism infrastructure and diversify its offerings, the future looks bright for Saudi Arabia's tourism landscape. With ongoing efforts to enhance visitor experiences, promote cultural heritage, and ensure environmental sustainability, the Ministry of Tourism is poised to further elevate Saudi Arabia's profile on the world stage, inviting travelers to explore its rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning landscapes.
