Geneva, April 02, 2025 – Ambassador Abdulmohsen bin Khothaila, the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, delivered a statement on behalf of over 70 countries at the 58th session of the Human Rights Council, emphasizing the urgent need to strengthen capacity building to protect children in cyberspace.

The statement highlighted that safeguarding children online is not just a technical matter but a strategic investment in a secure and sustainable future. It pointed out the significant resource and infrastructure gaps faced by many nations, especially those with development challenges, in addressing digital risks to children. The statement called for coordinated international action and stronger partnerships between governments and the private sector to create practical and sustainable protection solutions.

It specifically urged the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to offer vital technical support to countries in need, including assistance with developing national laws, training law enforcement, and establishing secure reporting systems.

The statement concluded by stressing the shared global responsibility to ensure a safe digital space where children’s rights are upheld and their dignity protected. This commitment aligns with Saudi Arabia's ongoing efforts, including the recent launch of the Child Protection in Cyberspace (CPC) Global Summit by HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, a key event aimed at uniting international responses to online threats against children.
