Riyadh, June 24, 2024. The National Cybersecurity Authority was present at a recent high-level open debate held by the UN Security Council. The debate focused on the topic of Maintenance of International Peace and Security: Addressing Evolving Threats in Cyberspace. Attending the conversation were representatives of the several UN member nations as well as Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The Saudi mission was headed by Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohamed Al-Wasel, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative to the UN. There were representatives from the National Cybersecurity Authority there. The purpose of the discussion was to raise awareness of the difficulties related to cybersecurity and to increase the United Nations Security Council's involvement in the battle against cyber attacks. This is an illustration of how global peace and order are at risk from a negative attitude on the Internet.
The critical importance of a dependable and safe Internet on which new economic opportunities are created, was emphasized by the Saudi officials; who also said they believe defense of own territories largely depends upon cyber-defense measures such as encryption codes or biometrics which protect passwords themselves rather than these from hackers only – according to them anything else can take away sovereignty faster than cyberattacks would ever do ?. For instance, it is necessary to intensify cybersecurity in search for common national interests. The most acute issues in cyber-security are discussed by top world leaders at forums like World Cyber Security Conferences.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has expressed thanks for the conference and its aspirations to enhance international collaboration in the field of cybersecurity.
During the most recent iteration of the gathering, representatives from over 120 different countries were present. The order to provide assistance to global initiatives aimed at enforcing cybersecurity, fostering cooperation, and fostering economic and social development in the field, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia established the Global Cybersecurity Forum Foundation in Riyadh.
This initiative aligns with and supports suitable international cybersecurity activities that aim to promote global wealth and well-being while simultaneously building human capacities in countries and international organisations. The Kingdom conducted cyber exercises in which more than forty countries and organizations participated.
In doing so, it reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing regional cooperation in the field of cybersecurity. The efforts led to the establishment of a specialist ministerial committee for cybersecurity by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Council of Arab Cybersecurity Ministers by the League of Arab States. The Kingdom's demands led to the establishment of both these initiatives.
