Riyadh, September 22, 2023, Saudi Arabia aims to boost its medal count at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, with a delegation of 193 athletes (both male and female) competing in 19 sports. This event, taking place from September 23 to October 8, gathers over 12,000 athletes from 45 Asian countries. In previous Asian Games, Saudi teams secured a total of 61 medals, including 25 golds.
The Asian Games' origins trace back to 1913 when the inaugural multi-sport event, known as the "Eastern Games," was held in Manila, the Philippines. In 1917, the competition became the "Far Eastern Championship Games" and continued under this name until 1938, with Shanghai, China, hosting it in 1917.
