In a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Sport and the Saudi Arabian Handball Federation, it has been officially declared today that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will proudly host the 16th edition of the International Handball Federation (IHF) Men's Super Globe tournament in 2023. This prestigious event is set to take place in Dammam from November 7 to 12, marking the fourth consecutive year that Saudi Arabia has been chosen as the host nation. The Kingdom previously organized the tournament in 2019, 2021, and 2022.
The upcoming tournament promises to be a thrilling spectacle, featuring the participation of 12 teams representing ten different countries. Saudi Arabia will be represented by Al-Khaleej and Al-Noor, both making their mark on the competition for the second time. Al-Noor joined the action during the 2021 edition held in Jeddah, while Al-Khaleej made their debut in the 15th edition held in Dammam in 2022, achieving a commendable sixth place finish.
The roster of participating teams includes the reigning champions SC Magdeburg from Germany, Europe's formidable champions Barlinek Industria Kielce from Poland, Bahrain's champions Al-Najma Club, Africa's victors Al-Ahly from Egypt, South and Central America's champions San Fernando HB from Argentina, North America and the Caribbean's champions San Francisco CalHeat from the USA, and Oceania's University of Queensland from Australia. Joining them will be Saudi Arabia's Al-Khaleej and their runner-up counterparts, Al-Noor. Additionally, the IHF has nominated Spain's Barça and Germany's Fuchse Berlin as participants, along with the champions of the Arab tournament, Al-Kuwait.
