Saudi Arabia, United States Deepen Partnership in ORAN Network Technologies

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) hosted a collaborative workshop with over 20 public and private-sector entities, including major global tech companies, to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s digital partnership with the United States.

Riyadh, December 7, 2024 – In a significant move to strengthen international digital collaboration, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) of Saudi Arabia hosted a high-level workshop with the United States, bringing together representatives from over 20 prominent public and private-sector entities. The primary goal of this collaborative event was to enhance the Kingdom’s digital partnership with global technology leaders, fostering innovation in the communications sector and enabling the development of strategic partnerships in cutting-edge technologies.


Key participants in the workshop included leading global technology companies such as Nokia, Qualcomm, Mavenir, AT&T, HP, NVIDIA, Intel, DISH, Echostar, Rakuten, and Dell. These companies are at the forefront of technological innovation and played an essential role in the workshop discussions, which centered on the future of Open Radio Access Network (ORAN) technologies. ORAN is seen as a transformative approach to building more flexible, efficient, and sustainable digital infrastructure that is key to advancing Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 objectives. The workshop explored how ORAN technologies can contribute to the growth of the digital economy and provide scalable solutions to meet the evolving needs of the Kingdom's communications network.


The event’s discussions focused not only on the technical advancements of ORAN but also on the strategies for achieving digital sustainability in Saudi Arabia. Key topics included enhancing network efficiency, reducing environmental impacts, and increasing innovation within the telecommunications infrastructure.
