Support for Ceasefire: Saudi Arabia welcomed the ceasefire in Lebanon and expressed appreciation for international efforts in facilitating the peace process.

Riyadh, November 28, 2024 – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has issued an official statement today expressing the Kingdom’s welcome and support for the ceasefire in Lebanon, following recent escalations in the region. Saudi Arabia commended the collective efforts of the international community in brokering this important development and underscored the significance of the ceasefire in bringing much-needed peace and stability to Lebanon.

In its statement, the Ministry emphasized that Saudi Arabia remains steadfast in its commitment to Lebanon’s sovereignty, security, and stability. The Kingdom expressed hope that this ceasefire would serve as a critical first step toward the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which was passed in 2006 and aims to end hostilities, prevent the outbreak of further violence, and protect civilians. The resolution, which also calls for the disarmament of armed groups, is crucial in ensuring Lebanon’s long-term peace and sovereignty.

Saudi Arabia further stressed that the successful implementation of Resolution 1701 would not only restore peace but also contribute to the safe return of displaced persons to their homes, providing stability and security for those affected by the conflict. The Kingdom reiterated its continued support for Lebanon and its people, pledging to assist in efforts to rebuild and support the country’s social, economic, and humanitarian needs during this challenging time.

The statement also highlighted Saudi Arabia’s commitment to regional peace and cooperation, calling on all parties involved to engage in dialogue and work together to uphold Lebanon’s independence and the welfare of its citizens. By supporting the ceasefire and the international framework outlined in Security Council Resolution 1701, Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its role as a committed partner in fostering peace and stability in the Middle East.

This announcement follows the Kingdom’s broader diplomatic efforts to contribute to conflict resolution and its ongoing advocacy for the principles of sovereignty, stability, and humanitarian assistance in the region. Saudi Arabia continues to actively engage with international organizations, including the United Nations, to ensure that Lebanon's peace and security are preserved and that its citizens can live in a stable and prosperous environment.
