On October 10, 2024, the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva actively participated in the general debate regarding the provision of technical assistance and capacity building at the UN Human Rights Council. During this session, the mission welcomed the release of the twelfth report from the Yemen National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights, underscoring the necessity for continued support from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) for the commission’s vital work.
In a statement delivered at the 57th session of the Human Rights Council, Asya Baakdah, head of the Human Rights Section at the Saudi Permanent Mission, articulated the Kingdom's commitment to achieving peace in Yemen. She expressed strong support for all initiatives aimed at resolving the ongoing crisis, emphasizing the urgent need to alleviate the humanitarian suffering faced by the Yemeni population. Baakdah reiterated Saudi Arabia’s initiative to end the conflict in Yemen, advocating for a comprehensive political solution to restore security and stability both in Yemen and the broader region.
Furthermore, in response to the rising tensions in the Red Sea region, which pose risks to the security of international shipping lanes and global trade, the Kingdom renewed its calls for measured responses and avoidance of escalation. The mission highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts to maintain security and stability in the Red Sea area, asserting that freedom of navigation is an essential global demand that impacts the interests of all nations.
